Giacomo Puccini's

TOSCA

Duck Walk Vineyards North

 June 20, 2009

On Saturday, June 20, 2009, OPERA OF THE HAMPTONS opens its Eighteenth Season with FESTIVAL 2009Giacomo Puccini's  TOSCA  at  DUCK WALK VINEYARDS NORTH, Southold, New York at 7:00 P.M.  This dramatic opera draws on all your senses as a web of intrigue and passion and violence has you anticipating every exciting moment.  Floria Tosca is the beautiful diva that entrances the world with just a glance and spins this opera into one you cannot miss.

If Tosca opened today on Broadway as a new work, it would show the continuing politics of evil and envy, war and lust, and human beings pitted against one another because of their desires and principles.  What can empower a person in this challenging world.......in Tosca, it may be love.

Victorien Sardou, one of the great French melodramatists, wrote Tosca as a dramatic vehicle for Sarah Bernhardt and it was enormously successful.   Puccini, being a man of the theater, well understood the value and intensity of Sardou’s play and through the efforts of Tito Ricordi, he procured the rights.   Tosca premiered at the Costanzi Theatre, Roma, on January 14, 1900 and has been one of the most popular operas of all time.

Dr. Herodotus Damianos is a true Patron of the Arts and once again, he has graciously invited Opera of the Hamptons to perform  at Duck Walk Vineyards North.   His great love of opera has extended itself to bringing opera to the North Fork every Summer.  Opera of the Hamptons will return to the North Fork where the beautiful sounds of Puccini’s passionate and dramatic “Tosca” will resound in an evening to rival any artistic adventure.

Opera of the Hamptons international singers are the amazing Cristina Fontanelli as Tosca, Benjamin Michael Sloman as Mario Cavaradossi, Richard Hobson as Baron Scarpia, Steve Fredericks as Angelotti, Charles Bosselman as the Sacristan and the Jailer, Anthony Tolve as Spoletta, Eddie Peterson as Sciarrone, Haley Willis as the Shepherd Boy, with Martin Young, Robert Glinski, Kevin and Steven Lane.  Atarah Hazzan is the Music Director; Heidi Lauren Duke, Stage Director; Charles Bosselman, Stage Manager; and Barbara Giancola, Artistic Director.

Frank & Camille's continues to support the arts each year by the use of their marvelous grand pianos and keyboards at all our venues.  Special thanks to Camille for her patronage and to Christopher Patti in his belief that Opera of the Hamptons is an opera company worthy of the support of the entire community.

Opera of the Hamptons and Duck Walk Vineyards North invite you to join us for this spectacular dramatic work.  Puccini has us spell bound with Tosca's  glorious melodies soaring into this night of operatic intrigue and magnificent music.   You cannot miss an evening with Floria Tosca!
